ABCDE Rule
A simple ABCDE rule might help patients to detect dangerous skin lesions that should be immediately examined by a dermatologist to make sure that they are not skin cancers:
(A) Asymmetry - meaning one half of the skin lesion or growth is different from the other half
(B) Border irregularity - meaning the border of the lesion is not smooth
(C) Color irregularity - meaning the color and appearance of the lesion is not homogenous and several colors can be seen in it, and/ or the color and appearance is strikingly different from the color and appearance of the other skin lesions that might be present
(D) Diameter - meaning the diameter is relatively large (over 5 mm)
(E) Evolving, Eroded, and/ or Expanding - meaning any skin lesion changing or developing ulcerations or growing relatively fast over the years
